How to Install Shotcut Video Editor 17.09.04 on Ubuntu 16.04, 17.04

    Shotcut is a free, open source, cross-platform video editor for Windows, Mac and Linux. Major features include support for a wide range of formats; no import required meaning native timeline editing; Blackmagic Design support for input and preview monitoring; and resolution support to 4k.


Shotcut  17.09.04 Changelog:
  • Renewed the code signing certificate for the Windows installer and executable.
  • Updated SDL to v2.0
  • Updated FFmpeg to v3.2
  • Updated x264, x265, and vp8/9 to the latest stable versions.

Installation instructions:

   The GetDeb repository contains the latest packages of Shotcut, available for Ubuntu 16.04,  Ubuntu 17.04 and derivatives.

1. Add the GetDeb repository via command:


$ sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc)-getdeb apps" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/getdeb.list'

For Linux Mint 18.x, replace $(lsb_release -sc) directly with xenial in the command. Type in your password when prompts and hit Enter.

2. Download and install the repository key via command:

$ wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

3. Running command update and install:

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get install
shotcut

(Optional) To remove Shotcut, use command:

$ sudo apt-get remove shotcut

$ sudo apt-get autoremove
