How to install network speed indicator on Ubuntu


Everybody use internet these days, whether it's wireless or wired, wouldn't be nice to have network speed indicator on your desktop? so you can see what's your current internet speed. In this short tutorial i will show you how to install network speed indicator on ubuntu.

With the default ubuntu installation, it is hard to see what's your current network speed is, it would be nice to have an indicator panel that can show information about the network speed, whether it's upstream or downstream.

Lucky for us, there is a network speed indicator on ubuntu, we just need to install it, here's how to install the network speed indicator pancel on ubuntu:

How to install network speed indicator on ubuntu
  1. open command line/terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T).
  2. run this to install the network speed indicator
    sudo apt-get install indicator-netspeed
  3. restart your computer (must do otherwise you won't see the indicator)
  4. done!

It is very important to restart your computer after installing the network speed indicator, because you won't be able to see it on your desktop, not until restarting the computer.



If you click on the network speed panel, you can see the upstream and downstream speed, you can also specify certain network interface you wish to display the speed, or you can monitor all network interface, it's up to you.
